President’s Message for June

Float or an Ark??

I am sitting here thinking about Portland Pride next Saturday and I am wondering whether we should plan on a float or an ark!

Could someone tell Mother &^%ing Nature that it is June not April! What's with all this rain and dark and gloomy? Next Sunday is supposed to be the first day of summer. Did I miss spring? Was there a spring?

To hell with her! She obviously is in need of a huge bottle of Midol!

We'll make our own sunshine next Saturday! Get out the beads and gold lame and all the bling you can find.

We will have a float (i.e. decorated truck, thanks Scott) in the parade and hopefully we will have a HUGE representation from the men of SGM. Let's show the people of Maine who fought so hard to get same-sex marriage in Maine how much we appreciate their hard work.

Men, we are the oldest, continuously meeting, gay men's social support group in the country, maybe the whole world! We've been around for thirty years. Isn't it about time we get out there and let everyone know who we are?

I am incredibly proud of SGM! I am president but I am not SGM. All of us together make SGM the great organization it is. So I would ask that you think about Portland Pride and think about how fabulous it would be to march next Saturday as a group of proud gay men that have been supporting each other for three decades.

It would be amazing to see thirty of us (one for each of the years we've been meeting) marching with the banner we are so proud of.

Let's let everyone know that we are still as relevant and important as we were thirty years ago when we came together as proud gay men to support and affirm our lifestyle when there was very little support from anywhere or anyone else.

Come on men, let's just do it and do it BIG!

Happy Pride,

Joe
