President’s Message for September

Happy autumnal equinox!

OK, I’m a little ahead of myself, as it doesn’t officially occur until 5:51 a.m. on the 23^rd. But the days are shortening perceptibly, and the weather forecast for the next few days is considerably cooler than it has been. Truth be told, I’m ready for autumn. How ’bout you?

I’d like to thank everyone who has already put his hat in the ring to run for the board of directors. As I am stepping down as your president, I am de facto chairman of the nominating committee, and I’d like to present a complete slate for the first Monday in November. Here are the nominations so far:

We have room for up to seven directors-at-large, and more than seven will give the members a real choice. Furthermore, if you’d like to run for one of the four offices (president, vice-president, secretary, or treasurer), don’t hesitate to add your name above. The sign-up sheets will be available at every SGM meeting between now and the election. For that matter, simply give me a call (877-SGMINC-1) or shoot me an e-mail () with your intention, and I’ll see to it that your name gets added.

In addition to the above elected positions, there are three appointed positions that the new board will need to fill shortly after taking office in December:

I invite all of you to do some serious soul-searching and see if one of these positions (either elected or appointed) is for you. Again, do not hesitate to add your name to one that may already be there—contested elections are welcomed! And if you’re not quite ready to serve on the board, you could still volunteer to help me serve on the nominating committee.
