President’s Message for April

Budding spring greetings!

I could be jinxing myself, but it appears that winter has finally given up. The nor’easter earlier this week pretty much fizzled out, at least here on the Seacoast (thanks be to God), and now I’m beginning to see buds all over the place. Each morning there are more birds competing for space at my bird feeders, not to mention the caravans of birds wending their way northward. For me this represents the final nail in winter’s coffin.

Another sign of spring is all the activities at SGM as we gear up for summer. There is still plenty of time to volunteer for various committees: Pride events, the July cruise, and many others. Don’t ever feel that the “old timers” (many of whom are quite young) will get everything done. We’re always looking for new talent and a new way of looking at things. So speak up and step forward!

Jay has started his Calendar List, and I got the first weekly message in my inbox this morning. Wow, there’s a lot going on in the extended Seacoast Region—which apparently includes the entire state of New Hampshire along with the Boston’s North Shore and southern Maine. Directions to subscribe to the list should appear elsewhere in this issue of Identity.

As I mentioned in last month’s Message, my speaking career is once again picking up, and I anticipate my travel schedule to increase in the latter half of this year, taking me away from you from time to time on Monday evenings. I already have training trips scheduled in Las Vegas in early May and early June. (And here I thought I was retired!)

So allow me to remind all of you that I shall not be running for reelection as your president come November. This provides an opportunity for others to step forward and take over the reins of this wonderful organization. The president’s job is not difficult, but it is quite high-profile, so you must be willing to perform public duties from time to time. The position does have its rewards, though. This board has been an absolute joy to work with, and I see it only getting better in future years as more and more newcomers bring fresh talent to this organization.

With that, I’ll let you go and enjoy the warmer days. Until next month, be out, be proud, and blossom!

Carl
