President’s Message for September

Early autumn greetings!

I’m writing this message on the first day of fall, and it certainly feels like it. Between the cooler temperatures, the drizzly weather, the changing foliage, and the diminishing daylight, all signs point to the end of summer. But don’t despair: SGM has a busy fall planned for you.

Be sure to bring extra food with you to the October potluck as we present our donation checks of the proceeds of our very successful July sunset cruise to the four selected recipients: AIDS Response–Seacoast, Gay Men Fight AIDS, PFLAG New Hampshire, and Seacoast Outright. All four organizations have said they will have at least one representative on site, so be sure to make these wonderful men and women feel welcome.

Our Web site is the best resource to use for determining what the upcoming programs are, so be sure to visit sgminc.org frequently. More importantly, I’d love to see more men take ownership of this fine organization. If you have an idea for a presentation, step forward. Don’t be shy. Remember, SGM is a membership organization, not a dictatorship of its board of directors.

That said, if you’re looking to become even more involved in SGM, you might consider running for a position on the board of directors. Our potluck in November is when we shall have our annual elections. The nomination sign-up sheets are being posted each Monday evening. (If you can’t make it to a Monday meeting but are interested in running for the board, just let any board member know and we’ll be happy to add your name to the appropriate list.) All board positions are up for election each year:

There are also sign-up sheets for appointed positions, which will be given to the new board for their consideration:

The ideal would be to have contested races for all positions, so don’t hesitate if you see a name already volunteered for the position you’re interested in. I encourage you to give careful consideration to becoming more involved in your organization and sign up!

Until next month, be out, be proud, and get involved!
