Who may (and who does) attend SGM meetings?

Don't necessarily believe what you hear. There is no easy way to describe the general attendance at an SGM Meeting. Attendees, both members and non-members, are of all ages, races, religions, political affiliations and degree of "being out" - from closeted to flamboyant. The meeting place, in the lower level of the Unitarian Universalist Church (a rented space - there is no religious affiliation), is a smoke-free environment. Of course, you'll usually see a group of men gathered outside for that nicotine fix at almost any time during a meeting. For those who do not like the bars, this is one alternative to meet other gay men in a safe and friendly environment.

As the name implies, SGM is an all male organization. While we do have women as program presenters on occasion, the integrity of the group has always depended on retaining its initial goal of being a place for gay men to meet, exchange ideas, and form new friendships in comfort and safety.

One does not have to be a member to attend SGM meetings; however, only members are allowed to vote. In addition, membership fees entitle one to receive a copy of the monthly newsletter, Identity, the bi-monthly contact list, access to a mailing list called the "Funlist", discounts at businesses, half-price advertising in our newsletter, and at certain SGM-sponsored events like the Sunset Cruise, a discounted admission rate.
