President’s Message for August

Dog Days greetings!

My flight back home is slightly delayed, and the Springfield (Ill.) airport has free Wi-Fi access, so I checked my mail and now still have a few moments to write my Message for August.

This has been a whirlwind month for me. Isn’t August supposed to be The Quiet Month? At least that’s how I’ve always thought of it before. Anyway, this is my second of three out-of-town assignments this month. It will be good to be back home in my own bed this evening (or rather early tomorrow morning), even if only for a few days before I head back out of town next Tuesday to attend USANA’s annual International Convention in Salt Lake City.

Don’t get me wrong: I’m not complaining at all. My first trip this month was back to Las Vegas, but this time to Marshall Sylver’s mansion itself. There were 16 of us public-speakers-in-training there, along with three experienced speakers providing invaluable feedback. My challenge is that I am still finding my voice—finding what topic I want to speak on. I had originally thought it would be personal development, prosperity, and abundance, à la The Secret, but now I am thinking that my technical background should be brought into the mix. Stay tuned: I’ll soon be giving free 60-minute presentations at a location near you.

I tell you all this only to explain why I am not with you every Monday evening. I even had to miss this past Monday’s board meeting, the first time in my presidency. It also underscores why I am not running for a third term. You deserve someone who has more time to devote to this office. Elections are coming up fast, less than three months away. All board positions are up for reelection, so all you have to do is decide which position best matches your skills and gifts. We need you! Step forward! It is my hope that the next board will have more than a few new faces on it, as we have had some wonderful newcomers to the group in recent months.

Until next month, be out, be proud, and relax as you enjoy the rest of your summer!
