President’s Message for JulyAhoy Mateys!
I’m writing this exactly one week before SGM’s annual sunset cruise, and I’m already getting excited about what lies in store for us. This year’s cruise committee has outdone themselves with their preparations. I can hardly wait to experience Lounge-Zilla on the dock.
If you are reading this message, then chances are good that you are a member, in which case tickets are still only $25 for you. However, do note that the member discount disappears the day of the cruise, and all tickets will be $30 at the dock. So stop procrastinating!
This has already been a busy summer—and it’s not even half over. There was a nice gathering at member Rob D’s house in Manchester for fireworks on Monday the 3rd. Then, on Monday the 10th, we had our annual families-and-friends potluck on Four Tree Island. Although we didn’t have quite as many families-and-friends as I would have hoped, everyone who was there enjoyed him- or herself. We’ll be back at Four Tree Island on Sunday, August 6th, for our second annual Picnic in the Park, where we follow up with Prescott Park’s summer production. This year it’s Oliver!, and I’ve heard nothing but good reviews so far.
With the exception of the cruise and the picnic in the park, these extra events have taken us away from our regular Monday night home at South Church. One side-effect is that collections are waaay down. So, if you can, the next time you’re there on a Monday evening, if you would be extra generous with your donations, they would be greatly appreciated. Remember that we pay for our space at the church whether we use it or not.
That’s about all I have energy for this hot and steamy afternoon. It is time to put my air conditioner in my office window so I can at least be productive tomorrow. I look forward to seeing all of you on board the M/V Thomas Laighton next Sunday evening. Do come up to me and say hi, especially if we haven’t met yet. I thoroughly enjoy meeting new friends.
Until next month, be out, be proud, and stay cool!
