President’s Message for AprilHappy spring!
It’s always such a reassuring pleasure to see flowers sprouting up out of the ground and trees and bushes in full bud. My favorite harbingers of rebirth are the forsythia. I hope you’re enjoying the lengthening warmer days.
This month’s board meeting was especially positive, and I am so honored to be working with such a fine group of dedicated men. I do apologize for it extending slightly beyond 7:30. We had two members who wished to make a presentation to the board. Allow me to take this opportunity to remind everyone that board meetings are open to all. I recognize that most people would find them boring, but it can be informative to see your elected directors at work.
To ensure that board positions are filled by men who are really able and willing to serve you, your board of directors has adopted a new policy. Three consecutive unexcused absences from board meetings are now taken as an automatic resignation of one’s board position. We recognize that “life happens” from time to time, and that no one is likely to have perfect attendance at board meetings. All we ask is that the board be notified up front and that the absences not be chronic. After all, you elected us to serve you.
Consequently, our first such resignation from the board is Earl Johnson. We have missed him for his input as the youngest person on the board, and we wish him success in all that he undertakes. If you’re reading this, Earl, know that you are always welcome at SGM meetings. We’d love to see your smiling face once again on Monday evenings whether or not you are on the board.
As for filling newly vacant board positions, the new bylaws specify that we are to have no fewer than three and no more than seven directors-at-large. Earl’s departure brings the number down from five to four, so no appointment is necessary . . . yet. Should future developments necessitate appointing a replacement director, I’ll be sure to keep everyone informed.
We have some great programs coming up, so be sure to check the Web site regularly for updates. The May board meeting will be held on its regular second Monday, May 8th, starting at 6:15 p.m.
Until next month, be out, be proud, and keep smiling!
